ABOUT SHE SHOPS SWAP

The journey started as a simple conversation over breakfast when Vicki Hall and her girlfriend met to discuss the clothing crisis as it was highlighted in the documentary The True Cost.

Vicki’s concern over where and under what conditions the majority of our clothing is made, and how this process impacts our planet started her thinking about ways to help. She recognized that there was a gap between donating clothes and the limited brands designer consignment stores would accept. This resulted in many women’s closets overflowing with unworn items. Thus the concept of creating a space for women to swap their preloved clothing was born. Swapping bridged the gap between donating and selling to consignment stores, and is not only environmentally friendly but fosters a sense of community. A curated swap where all items are collected prior to the event promoted a ‘shopping’ experience for participants. The success of the first She Shops Swap in March 2020, with 75 women swapping over 600 items demonstrated the demand for a sustainable and cost effective alternative.

Since 2020, hundreds of women have participated in multiple She Shops Swap events. All items that remain at the end of a swap are donated to New Circles GLOW Clothing Bank.

She Shops Swap is a practical and impactful initiative that not only provides a platform for women to refresh their wardrobes, but also contributes to the larger goal of minimizing the environmental impact of fashion on the planet.
